Although Squall is both anti-social and a loner, there are people in his life who have some effect on what he says, what he does, and, in some cases, the way he thinks. Here you'll find a picture of each one, along with a small profile and a brief description of how they affect Squall. The are placed in the order that Squall meets them through the game.

「 Quistis Trepe 」 Quistis is Squall's instructor. She wants to understand him, but he only pushes her away. At one point near the beginning of the game, she tries to talk to him, but he tells her that if she just needs somebody to listen, she would be better off talking to a wall. As children, Quistis and Squall reside in the same orphanage. When Ellone, Squall's beloved "sis", is taken away, Quistis tries to take her place however Squall does not accept her. That is why when they are older and have forgotten about their childhood due to the use of GF's, Quistis mistakes her sisterly feelings for Squall as being love. • Name: Quistis Trepe • Sex: Female • Age: 18 • Height: 5'6" • D.O.B.: October 4 • Weapon: Chain whip • Limit Break: Blue magic • Game insert: A SeeD Cadet at the age of 15, Quistis now instructs Squall and his companions at Balamb Garden. Contrary to her cool and bold exterior, she is known to have a difficult time coping with frustration, which sometimes results in her becoming depressed over trivial matters.

「 Selphie Tilmitt 」 Squall first meets Selphie in the 2F hall when she bumps into him, after being late for homeroom. Despite her upbeat attitude, Squall doesn't seem to mind her that much, and even tells one of her old friends from Trabia Garden that she's been "a great help". When they were younger, Selphie and Squall lived at the same orphanage, however the game doesn't disclose very much information about their relationship as children. Selphie is also one of the many supporters of Squall and Rinoa as a couple. • Name: Selphie Tilmitt • Sex: Female • Age: 17 • Height: 5'1 ½" • D.O.B.: July 16 • Weapon: Nunchaku • Limit Break: Slot • Game insert: A woman who seems out of place in a military academy because of her innocent look and light-hearted personality. Selphie's happy-go-lucky disposition and laid-back attitude tend to catch others off gaurd.

「 Zell Dincht 」 When Quistis first announces that Zell will be his partner for the Dollet field exam, Squall fondly refers to him as "loud" and makes a request to switch members. Zell is quite annoying at first, but once Squall gets to know him, he learns to deal with his frequent spazzes and immature remarks. Zell is another one of the individuals who lived at the orphanage with Squall when they were young. He has a short temper and is easily provoked, especially by his archenemy, Seifer Almasy. Like Selphie, he is a big supporter of the Squall and Rinoa coupling, and enthusiastically agrees when asked by Rinoa to make a duplicate of Squall's ring Griever. Squall reluctantly lends the ring to Zell without even asking about the true nature of what it will be used for, thus proving that he doesn't dislike Zell all that much. • Name: Zell Dincht • Sex: Male • Age: 17 • Height: 5'5" • D.O.B.: March 17 • Weapon: Gloves • Limit Break: Duel • Game insert: An incredible martial artist. Aspiring to become like his grandfather who was once a soldier, Zell entered Garden at the age of 13. Not being one that thinks matters through, he is known to act on impulse rather than reasoning. At heart however, he is an honest young man who takes things seriously.

「 Seifer Almasy 」 Ever since they were young, Squall and Seifer have been ultimate rivals. After coming to Balamb Garden at around the ages of five and six (respectively), they both learn to weild the same weapon, a gunblade. It is not long before they both become gunblade specialists, the only two to be found in Balamb Garden. As children, they lived in an orphanage along with Selphie, Zell, Quistis, Irvine, and Ellone. Seifer had always needed to be the center of attention, but Squall would just ignore him and eventually it would end in a fight. After Ellone's leaving, Squall would always take up Seifer's challenges, with the constant hope that if he did so, he might be able to see his precious "sis" once more. "I gotta do my best by myself. Or else I won't be able to see Sis" • Name: Seifer Almasy • Sex: Male • Age: 18 • Height: 6'2" • D.O.B.: December 22 • Weapon: Gunblade • Limit Break: Fire Cross • Game insert: A candidate for SeeD. Although Seifer is a naturally gifted soldier, his inability to take orders and control his temper has earned him the label of being problematic. Although recognizing and praising Squall's abilities and powers, he nonetheless regards him as his ultimate rival.

「 Rinoa Heartilly」 Rinoa is the person who affected Squall the most through-out the duration of the game. She is determined, and always speaks her mind, continuously encouraging Squall to do the same. The two of them argue quite often at first. However once he loses her, he realizes how much he truly loves her, and does everything in his power to get her back. By the end of the game, the two of them have developed an unbreakable and unsurpassable bond. After losing Ellone, Rinoa is the first person that Squall is able to open up to. Too bad for her she's unconcious at the time. • Name: Rinoa Heartilly • Sex: Female • Age: 17 • Height: 5'3 ½" • D.O.B.: March 3 • Weapon: Blaster Edge • Limit Break: Combine • Game insert: A lively, young woman with the ability to touch people's hearts. Open and honest with her feelings, Rinoa has a tendency to speak her mind without concealing anything. Driven by her ambition, she is known to be stubborn at times.

「 Irvine Kinneas 」 Although the game does not put much emphasis on the relationship between Squall and Irvine, there are some things that can be concluded from the few moments of dialogue they share. It seems that to Squall, Irvine is just a guy who is there to help them defeat the sorceress. The two of them have the odd conversation every once in a while, but speak far less with each other than with the other characters in the game. They do, however, seem to understand each other alright. • Name: Irvine Kinneas • Sex: Male • Age: 17 • Height: 6'0" • D.O.B.: November 24 • Weapon: Rifle • Limit Break: Shot • Game insert: An expert marksman from Galbadia Garden, Irvine is known as the "Best shooter in Garden". His reputation for cherishing the company of women is almost as well known as his accuracy with a gun. Although he seems to be insensitive and frivolous at first glance, he is in reality, sensitive and serious.
