Game Information

After Final Fantasy VII's remarkable success, old FF fans, and new fans alike were eagerly awaiting the release of VIII (Japanese: ファイナルファンタジーVIII Fainaru Fantajī VIII). In 1999, the wait was over, and as fans all over the world emptied they're wallets, Final Fantasy VIII became another victory for Square in the gaming industry. With sales of nearly 10 million units world wide, it became one of the top selling console games of that year.

Final Fantasy VIII had amazing graphics for it's time, and a soundtrack worth the extra dollars. The combat system was much more complicated than VII, and this threw fans off a bit. What with all the junctioning, and drawing magic and such. Nevertheless many people still loved it.

The characters were very developed and even non-fans must admit that they were quite likeable. There's the cold introverted Squall, outgoing determined Rinoa, loud spunky Selphie, and so many others. They're all so different and interesting. The characters alone are a good reason to play until the end.

It's said that you'll either love it or hate it, which proves to be quite true. Some thought the story was very deep and original, and some thought that it was quite weak, and over-used. But despite this, fans and non-fans alike agree that the graphics were remarkable, and a huge step forward in the world of gaming.
