Rinoa is an ambitious and caring young woman who isn't afraid to dream big. When she believes in something she goes for it, regardless of what others may think. She is trusting and speaks her emotions quite freely, continually urging others to do the same.
Squall on the other hand has no real dream. His main goal in life was to become a SeeD and even that was only so that he would have something to be busy with. After the tragic loss of his sister, he has lost all ability to trust in and depend on others, although he actually cares a lot about what they think of him. Squall is also very emotional but doesn't let it show, always keeping his thoughts and feelings to himself.
• Rinoa brings joy to Squall's life, and gives him a reason to be. If you have ever found love, then you will know what an amazing feeling it is to love someone and know that it's mutual. It gives you something to look forward to, a reason to wake up every morning. That's what Rinoa became to Squall.
Her love for him also helps to heal the wounds of his childhood. Ellone's departure leaves him feeling deserted, unloved, and alone. But Rinoa shows him that he really isn't alone; that he has all of his friends there to help him if he ever needs it. Selphie, Zell, Quistis, Irvine, Ellone--They all care about him very much, and Rinoa helps him to see that. She also reminds him of what it feels like to be loved; to have someone there who genuinely cares about you and wants the best for you.
• Rinoa teaches Squall how to trust in others once again. As was explained in Love Grows, the loss of Rinoa forces Squall to depend on his friends. It is Squall's feelings for Rinoa that make him go to such measures to save her. As a result of that, his friends are able to prove to him that they are there to support him both physically (as when they went with him into outer space to find Ellone), and emotionally (as when they reassured him that he should go to the Sorceress Memorial and save Rinoa).
• Rinoa gives Squall a sense of peacefulness. He has spent most of his life emotionally tormented by the tragic events of his childhood, but being with Rinoa--even just looking at her smile--makes him feel calm and tranquil.
