「 02. Interaction 」 There are certain things and people through out the game who treat Link differently according to the form that he is in. One of these forms being a Deku Scrub. Below are some brief descriptions of these people/things and their respective reactions.「 People 」 Several people (and other living things) in the game have opinions and biases for or against the race of the Deku Scrub. In general, Deku Link is seen as a weaker character, however the reactions vary with each character. Regardless of what people may think, Link proves to be a true hero, even in deku form.(THE BOMBERS)

(DOGS) Of all the races in Termina, Deku Scrubs are, by far, the most disliked when it comes to dogs. Upon seeing a scrub, these vicious canines will pounce at the poor defenceless creature several times without warning. Although their attacks do not actually deal any damage, Deku Link would do best to stay out of their way. (EPONA)
「 Surroundings 」 Links surroundings affect him differently depending on the form that he is in when he encounters them. As a Deku, he has many advantages over his usual self, however there are definately some disadvantages that follow.(WATER) Upon contact with deep water, Deku Link is inclined to hop along the surface as if he is as light as a feather. This ability wears off after a certain amount of jumps, at which point Deku Link must either land on solid ground, or drown. Once Link reaches land, his total amount of hops is refreshed, and he is fully recharged for the next time he needs to make a trip overseas. (LILLY PADS) Deku Link is the only form in which Link can stand on Lily pads without having them sink. This proves to be very useful when he needs to venture across long lakes or rivers. (FIRE) Since the Deku are made of wood, fire is a huge weakness. If Deku Link gets burnt, it is an automatic K.O. His life meter has nothing to do with it.

At first, the Bombers Gang doubt Link's ability, and see him merely as a weak Deku Scrub. It is because of this that they allow Deku Link to take their initiation test even though they had all agreed to only let human boys into their gang. When Link proves himself worthy and completes their test, they are impressed and give him access to their hide-out, however their past experiences with non-human kids stop them from letting him become a full fledged member.
The Royal Deku Syndicate treat Deku Link as they would any other Deku Scrub who is not of Royal blood. They are unconcerned with his actions unless he does something that either breaks the palace rules, or puts the Deku Princess into danger.
Epona is the name of Link's horse. Originally winning her in a horse race at Lon Lon Ranch, she is Link's companion and friend, not to mention a great source of transportation. Not only is she a fast runner, but also gives Link the power of invincibility for as long as he is riding her. Deku Link is never given the option to mount Epona, and would probably have very much trouble should he manage to do so. His short legs would not reach the stirrups, and it is likely that he would end up falling off.
